So my addition is in line with Andres's. Years ago, like about 30
something of 'em, I was privileged to drive a neighbors Ferrari when I
was still the proud owner of a Fiat 124. To demonstrate what a smart
driver I was, I down shifted on the way to a stop sign. Frank looked at
me and asked, "Do you always do that?" I replied in the best know it
all young driver tone, "Of course, that way I save the breaks." Frank
gave me the withering look of a United 747 captain and winner of many a
race and asked, "which is less expensive to replace, break pads or
clutch plates and gear boxes?" As Andres said, break first then shift.
