All,
Having been requested to do so and as a courtesy, I forward to you an
announcement of another car show this summer.
This promises to be quite a unique event, if it comes off well, given
their set up (see Art's commentary below).
Probably lots of cars, some of which you have never heard of much
less seen, will be there.
I read through their pamphlet and do have a few personal comments
about items which strike me as especially interesting and even a bit
odd compared to the dozens of other shows I have attended and a fair
number at which I've taken trophies.

New Hope (PA) Automobile show 2006 12 & 13 August.
New Hope is about as far East in PA as one can get without swimming
the Delaware to NJ.
Perhaps of interest to Eastern PA, NY, Baltimore or DC folks. Too far
for me because I'm heading that way to the DC old BMW meet two weeks
later and also have some concerns about its rules and regulations -
as follows.
My opinion only, and meant as an advisory to potential CSR & SSR
attendees and some suggestions to the organizers.
(1) NO day of show registration permitted. None accepted by phone or
internet. USPS mail only
CORRECTION: Their brochure does not say it but their web site now
does indicate that they will accept on line registration. One assumes
the latter is correct. Somebody got smart.
(2) "MUST pre-register by 31 July 2006". Actually not a
"pre-register" since there will be no other registrations afterwards
or at the gate. :-)
$25 per vehicle per day - a tad steep? OK - $40 for both days.
Except, "Family Car Theme" division entries which are $50 for one day
but only $65 for both.
Wonder why such a slam?
Polish up that lovely Chevrolet Caprice Classic or Buick Roadmaster wagon.
(3) Recent photo, short description or documentation statement is
required with registration.
(4) "Automobiles not ready for judging may be turned away at the gate."
Which means what - if my windscreen has bugs from travel to the show
it's not ready?
Some items such as this do need clarification.
(5) " ... after market parts modified vehicles ... will not be
accepted". (some exceptions listed)
I have an after market oil filter cannister modification, a fan with
4 extra blades and dumped the points/condenser stuff for Petronix.
Would that disqualify me? Who would recognize it as "cheating" on a
'72 CSi anyway?
(6) 250 maximum cars per day. 26 different categories listed for
Saturday. Maximum 25 per category - the math comes out funny.
Lincoln Continental and Chrysler/Plymouth production seem to be
considered as Foreign or Exotic? One assumes a typo in printing,
perhaps?
23 different categories for Sunday (including Family Car Theme
Vehicles - Sedans, Wagons, Woodies, Suburbans through 1973)
(7) Also all BMW's are OK, BUT only through 1973 EXCEPT all years of
2002's are fine. Hmmm....
Maybe there is one, but I can't find a category to fit - so leave
your 1974 E9's and E3's at home.
1973 has been picked as the magic barrier year in most categories -
except sometimes, especially if Italian although somebody forgot
Fiat. They had some really nice 124 Coupes and Spyders.
I know, I owned one until it sadly disintegrated.
Hold a minute, any Z BMW would appear to be OK in a by decade Sports
Car category as long it has only 2 seats. I guess that would include
a new Z4 , nicely detailed at the dealer and you picked it up last
week.
Bring your 507 and you have a winner.
(8) As written, Nash will apparently compete against Duesenberg (not
Dusenberg) and Rolls-Royce in "Classic" Category "C" - sheesh what
about Hudson Hornet? Kaiser Dragon? Renault Dauphine?
(9) All show vehicles must have fire extinguishers. That's a new one
on me although not a bad idea at all times for any car you care
about. I carry Halon - supposedly bad for the environment but so is
a lot of burning leather, plastic, paint, upholstery, fuel,
lubricants and rubber.
(10) "Consumption of alcoholic beverages and the use of tobacco
products in any form are strictly prohibited at all times". (It's Law
because it is a public school campus even though the school is not in
session.)
I have been at a few shows where beer was "officially" prohibited -
sometimes only because vendors were selling it on the show grounds
and didn't want competition from personal coolers.
But there is nothing like a nice cold beer after a few hours standing
around on hot tarmac.
I've never seen anybody busted or even admonished for discretely
sipping a Heineken at a show.
Sounds like you could get arrested in New Hope but one can buy
plastic covers for beer cans that say "Pepsi".
Tobacco? I fully understand why some folks cannot tolerate being
within 50 meters of a smoker, even in the outdoors, but this is the
first absolute prohibition I have ever seen. I quit 15 years ago - a
tad too late as some of you know - and I hardly advocate cigarettes
but the only beef I would have with smokers is the nasty litter that
the butts make on the ground. In my old Army days we could "field
strip" an unfiltered Camel and make it disappear.
See the entrance to all those "no smoking" buildings where management
has sent all sinners to pursue their vice outside but not bothered to
place a simple sand bucket at the door.
NHAS want to might review their rather harsh, restrictive and
confusing regulations (in my personal opinion) and perhaps issue a
more friendly revision.
Draw your own conclusions about attending.

P.S. This just in the mail today (12 July) on 13-15 July 2006,
Collector Auction in Springfield, MO.
http://www.boydsauction.com/
They sent us a complete, glossy, full color ten page catalog
including some of the neatest and also most awful old cars you have
ever seen. (No Studebakers)
"Eye of the Beholder", of course. (Remember the Rod Serling classic
"Twilight Zone"?)
The only imports: One DeTomaso Pantera and One Triumph TR 6
Hurry down. Somebody was a little tardy in getting this from the
printer and into the mail or maybe I can blame my mail carrier.
Some fortunate person will win a coveted restored 1979 Ford Pickup
with a few modifications, of course. Must be present to win and be
either a buyer or a seller.
