Steve,
At her request, I will be sending an original sample badge to Diane this week.
It's the best I can do to get the best quality product which we all
want and expect
The correct word you used is in indeed Patience. Ask Ken Olsen who
took an incredible amount of time and effort and some of his own
funds to get the original batch done and after an original major
screw up in production.
I am not delighted that these things may likely be made in China,
which certainly would NOT be my first choice for several reasons. My
kids nibbling lead paint would not be one of them, since they are
both now adults and can nibble what they will and can be careful of
what they feed their pet animals.
And I am very cautious about what tires I use.
Over the years I have dealt with many hundreds of Coupe and other BMW
people. Almost all are trustworthy and honest people but a few nut
cases, congenitally nasty and even flat out frauds have popped up now
and again. My local BMW dealer tech who maintains and repairs Ilse
will verify that one.
And sometimes one's circumstances can unexpectedly change. Large
medical expenses not covered or refused by insurance, a divorce, a $2
Mil hacienda mortgage collapse, major Coupe rebuild or repair or
other huge expense, might require the sale of a Coupe or at least the
conservation of money for one reason or another.
Another item - in the event an order in foreign currency comes in -
most likely Canada if anywhere, at all, keep the exchange rate and
bank fees with which you will get slammed in mind.
I would not expect any payments in dinar.
In other words and at the risk of sounding too negative - get the
full cost up front and give the buyer advice about long delay
possible - a fact of 21st century life now anyway. "Refunds for
cancelled orders made only if no excess stock remains unclaimed."
And I do much appreciate your offer to contribute any excess badge
income towards CSR operation.
Hopefully all of us will come out ahead and I can have a lot of patience too.
Enough remains in the CSR kitty to cover expenses for now but I can
always sell Gretel.
Regards to all,
Art

>The next update will have a closing date for ordering badges. That
>way people who only check their mail once in a while will have a
>chance.
>
>Then I will give a firm number to Diane at the 356 Registry and she
>will come back with a final unit price. That price will include the
>one-time start up cost, shipping from China, the cost of the badges
>and the cost of shipping them to me. They have to go to her as the
>Importer.
>
>I will add to that Number, postage and any incidental expenses. A
>member has donated 50 boxes and a suggestion about free packing
>material. Thanks.
>
>If there are any incidental expenses I have not included they will
>be added before you get a price per badge.
>
>I promised Diane and myself we would break even on this project. And we will.
>
>I will order perhaps five extra badges, spread the cost around to
>ALL of us, and sell them for what they cost us. If anyone thinks I
>should order more than five extra let me know. That money will go to
>Art to help with the expenses of running our Registry.
>
>If anyone has a problem with this plan please let me know.
>
>This is not going to happen overnight. Please be patient.
