Could be Jim but I have never experienced a problem by using the
correct socket style and watt rating for good ole US&A bulbs - made
in China or Bangladesh, of course.
Actually, I wonder if the problem might have to do with using those
good ole German ceramic fuses that are still in some cars. I'm
talking about the ones with pretty color codes and without glass
protection so they slowly corrode quite nicely and tend to eventually
give up in the most embarrassing situations.
First chance you get, replace them all with glass - but you will need
to find the ones with those little pointy ends - not the flat ones.
And always carry extras as they sometimes flop out of those
vertically arrayed clips and disappear.
I'm not sure we can blame this engineering blunder on our Karmann but
somebody might have put down their litre of bier and had a look at
where and how the 2002, costing less than half Coupe prices, carries
its fuses.
Then find somebody with really skinny and steady fingers or use a
needle nose pliers to insert them while you are on your knees poking
at the conveniently located fuse box.
While down there, pray for help to your choice of God(s) - They will
laugh as they do at pious athletes who expect Divine help on the
playing field as if Jesus, Yahweh, Allah or others have nothing
better to do than get a ball through a hoop, into the end zone or the
bleachers so players can keep their multi $mjl salaries.
