I seem to recall someone recommending a dealer willing to re-key an E9.
I have a 71 with no keys at all. I would like to buy the steering lock
mechanism complete with tumbler and key.

Can someone point me to a good source?

Is there a way to search for old posts in situations like this?

Thanks, Dave

Went on a mountain run yesterday with a bunch of off brand German cars.
I was showing them the way in our CS- which was fun. Smooth is better
than raw HP on the twisty bits. The CS performed admirably.

At a scenic overlook we were in a lot filled with all kinds of
incredible sports car iron (Lambos, Vettes, GT3 Porsches, Ferraris, and
more Caymans.) *It's funny (to me) how the CS captures an admiring
audience where the others don't. We park, get surrounded, and none of
the others do.

Somebody says, "I've always loved the lines of the old BMW's." He's
pointing at my car. "The way the A and B pillars are, the big windows
front and rear..."

Hey, wait a minute- my copy of the CS doesn't HAVE A "B" PILLAR! I got
cheated!

Question is, should I correct the person- or just let it go. The CS, of
course, is a classic 'pillarless' "B" design coupe. I wonder if we can
make a list, albeit a short one, of the other great coupes that don't
have "B" pillars.

Glad you showed the flag, Paul.

Of course no "B" pillar and lots and lots of glass. I also love
driving my 1995 E36 M3 Coupe (with a "B" pillar) but it makes me feel
very closed in by the door sills and high sloping dash on which you
cannot place or store hardly anything - unlike a Coupe. That Coupe
shelf was a brilliant piece of design and especially since it has
some real real wood, unlike the phony looking shiny plastic they
stick on BMW's and others. I refused a decent deal for an in stock on
my M3 back in 1995 in favor of waiting for one with all black leather
or is it vinyl?

Also the Coupe shelf does provide a fairly solid place for a
passenger to hold on if the driver is getting frisky in the twisties
Do also caution to NEVER use the door handle as a hand hold and to be
gentle when using it to close the door. it can pull out of its screw
anchors.
Best way is to use the window sill when the glass is down.
Wipe hands cleans to avoid finger prints appreciated. :-)

My contribution to your list of great Coupes that lack a "B" pillar:
Studebaker Golden Hawk.
And a little surprise most have never heard of: 1954 Willys Aero Eagle.

Hi

My 1974 CSi was broken into (damaged window frame, vent window, chrome
molding) to steal my stereo (damaged excellent center console, stole
radio
tray....)

I am seroiusly thinking of getting a good period correct stereo with no
cassette, since these days you can easily play your Mp3 files through
these radios. I am not a super picky, high-end stereo guy, but I would
like to have a radio that has some decent power (preferably without a
booster or
amp) to feed into my 6x9 speakers?

Does anyone know of any good radios from the early 70s that were
originally supplied for CSis? I wouldn't mind one that was common here
in the US, where I could retrofit Euro buttons to match the rest of the
car.

Maybe a Becker Grand Prix?

Thanks for your help,
Tom Colitt

Tom,

Lots on eBay. Also check German eBay. You can also buy reconditioned
radios from this guy _http://www.koenigs-klassik.de/indexe.html_
(http://www.koenigs-klassik.de/indexe.html) . Not cheap though.

Regarding power, hi-power back then was 5 watts per channel with a fair

amount of distortion at volume. You may find a small booster amp under
the front
seat an easy alternative. That's what I have and a couple of strips of

velcro hold it in place.

Good luck,
Mike
