Nope, I cannot agree that these are among the great no "B" pillar Coupes.
Actually I recall some pillarless cars with 4 doors - thus not coupes.
I thought that the 1950's Chevy and (yes Jef) Buick with Dynaflow, of
course, were really design and driving atrocities.
Perhaps an early warning to GM for not paying attention to what
others - especially abroad - were doing.
Then as now, Roadmasters and such were favorites among the aging,
greying and sagging set -
YEEKS! my people now.
While in school I got to drive almost every model of the time as a
Parking Valet (we just called them "Attendants" in them days),
driving instructor and once in a while transporter of vehicles South
for the Winter.
I would much rather go with the (now) hysterically funny excesses of
Chrysler such as the DeSoto, maybe some monster Plymouths (as in the
great car movie "Christine",) and the Imperial.
Packard, once a glorious marque, came out of WWII with a really bad
looking car - worthy of our modern
Bangle's talent. In a panic they combined with Studebaker that had
some really great Raymond Loewy designs in their Coupes and Hawks
and even Avanti, but ... too late.
Of course the lowest cost entry level, bare bones, and really cheap
looking Studebaker "Scotsman" just didn't work. Almost as bad an
idea as the 1937 "Dictator" model.
When near South Bend, IN, really do stop and visit the museum of what
once was and might have been.
Screwed by the once "Big Three" - how the mighty were falling.
Hudson, Nash, Kaiser, Willys,
Renault (well maybe not Renault - the Dauphine and later the Alliance
deserved it), but almost even our beloved BMW.
Preston Tucker may be rotating and chortling in his grave as Toyota slides in.
