Hey Art,

I don't think Karmann had anything to do with that dashboard design, my E3
and the 1600/2002s have it too.

Thanks for the message Steve but a word of warning to you and all.

Do NOT use the arm rest on the door as a grab handle and be really gentle if
you pull on it to close the door. If a grab handle is needed, the sturdy rim
on the dash shelf should work just fine.

The screws holding the door thing in place will surly let go and especially
if having been likely removed several times over the years to get at the
window cranks or glass. The holes will strip.

Speaking of which, when was the last new car you saw with such a great and
convenient shelf to safely put soft stuff up front under the wind screen?
Most now have round and sloping areas on which anything slides off to the
floor or even out an open window unless tacked down with velcro or duct
tape. Karmann did get it right at times.

I agree with Art. I do take my coupe to driver's schools and I've never had
a problem with sliding around, nor have I had an instructor complain. I know
they would like something more substantial than the grab handle on the door
but that's their problem. Most of them enjoy going out with me than anything
"M" and new and idrive. And when I offer them a few spins around the track
they don't beg off.

So keep those beautiful original seats and keep driving.

A few years ago I went to a BMWCCA chapter meeting at our local BMW dealer
in Doylestown PA. I was late and most of members arrived before me and were
gathered in the showroom. There was all kinds of iron parked outside,
including a Ferrari and other non-BMW stuff. When I pulled up in front it
was a race to the door. They were circling, asking questions. Few other
BMWs have the WOW factor of our coupes.

Finally, thanks to all of you who responded to my post about stickers.
Wonderful news. I am ordering this am.
