David and all:
For decades, I ran 450 twin turbo horsepower in my CSL through both a CR 5
speed and an OD 5 speed tranny before the M5 was introduced and well before
M5 parts were available. Nary a problem after 100,000 very fun road and
track miles.
F.Y.I. With the turbo, the OD was the only answer however, with M5 power,
I'd stay with the CR unless you do a lot of highway miles, then I'd go with
a lower ratio diff and the OD. Of course if I would have had M5 driveline
parts available at the time, I would probably have gone that route, but they
weren't and I didn't and had no problems and lots of fun. One reoccurring
problem though. The guibo self-destructed every 20,000 miles or so.
