Nice article about Max Hoffman who helped save BMW's butt around mid 
20th Century, although some of his other ventures didn't quite make 
it in the USA.

Good discussion about the Mini Cooper. I wonder why it isn't badged 
as a BMW?  Maybe too "cute
to carry the "kidney" grill - which has long since quit being a 
kidney unless someone has severe nephritis.
Perhaps because Chris Bangle had little or nothing to do with the design?

Having driven an earlier model Cooper S, (definitely the S) I concur 
with the writer's conclusions - except the price can get a little 
scary, depending on which of a sack full of options you really must 
have.

And for the 1% of us who qualify for nice tax breaks, some of these 
will certainly stimulate the economy
... but no BMW content.
