Richard,
I believe the system works the same as the dealers system, which does
not have VIN numbers dating back to 70's model vehicle, hence the
reason for your erroneous result.
Use it as a resource for parts, part schematics, and parts numbers,
not as a historical reference. The system works just fine if you
search by model rather than VIN.
