Bill,
Your advice is correct but I shudder about removing any of those
vinyl covered cardboard door panels.
Screws will be getting stripped after having been removed who knows
how many times over decades. Especially the clips used to pop in the
panel to the door and the bolts (actually large screws) holding in
the door pull/arm rest.
If my suggested solution doesn't work then either tolerate the noise
or have at it and be really careful.
