One more thing - assume the wires on the starter solenoid are intact and still connected.? IIRC (again) there's one with a push-on connector which could be dislodged if you're careless down there.? Check that wire, the smallest on the solenoid, is seated well.
Also that the block is grounded to the battery negative.? Further suggestions become unlikely, but what did you fuss with lately?

Not necessarily. It could be slop in the mechanical engagement between
the lock cylinder and the switch. I've had that problem. I fixed it
by gluing in a thin metal shim to take up the free play. You can test
the switch when you disassemble the whole thing. If the switch
functions, then the key/lock is just not able to turn it far enough
anymore to close the starter circuit.
You might save close to $100 in parts. I have a spare switch on hand
because I mistakenly assumed it was the problem.

You need the electrical part of the ignition switch. It fits into the
back of the key part. Part number is: 61 32 1 355 148

The start function in my 74 3.0 CS quit...I turn the key and nothing
happens except the idiot lights go on. I need a new switch, right? Or
can I fix it myself? Meantime I have rigged up a remote starter switch
so I can still drive her while I get the switch repaired/replaced.
Thanks Gruppe!
