James and Others in VA Especially:
Since I live in the"Last Colony" and have to cross VA going south, I often wondered what fines VA and other states charge when you are caught with a radar detector where they are illegal?  Do they just give a fine only?  If so, I rather be fined for having a radar detector than get a ticket for speeding with the additional points than deal with the insurance company issues afterward.
Normally I turn my detector off until I hit NC or MD lines.

That's pretty cool.  I still have my Escort from the '80's.  Never failed me, except once, when I couldn't hide it fast enough from the VA police, and got ticketed just for having one.  With the legal limits at 70+, I don't feel the need anymore.  But back in the double nickel days... jim
