[BMWCSRegistry] Radar in Canada

I read that in Canada the Mounties have devices that detect a radar  detector 
even if it is turned off as long as it is plugged in. Supposedly, the  
detector sends out some kind of a signal.  Using a radar detector, on or  off, is a 
primary offense in CA. They can pull you over and confiscate it just  for 
having one. But hey, the Valium is really cheap.
 
Is any of this true? Should I _www.snopes.com_ (http://www.snopes.com)  it? 
Great site. That's where I  found out that most of the winners of the 
_www.darwinawards.com_ (http://www.darwinawards.com)   never  happened.
